PERSPECTIVES

THAILAND

Located in Southeast Asia, Thailand has a wide range of landscapes from hillside rice field vistas in the north to pristine beaches and stunningly clear water in the south. Complete with limestone cliffs, jungles, and elaborate temples. Embrace the Buddhist culture.

ABSOLUTE MUSTS

The Grand Palace

Located in Bangkok this is a must see during your visit to the city. Built in 1782, this palace was the home of the Thai King for 150 years. It showcases stunning architecture and gold peaked domes soaring into the sky. Be sure to dress appropriately and cover your knees and shoulders.

Floating Markets

There are several options to experience a floating market however Damnoen Saduak Market was my choice and is the most famous floating market of them all. Located just outside of Bangkok, these colourful floating markets are packed with wooden boats piled high with tropical fruit and vegetables. Arrive early to avoid the large crowds.

Khao San Road

A popular street in Bangkok for backpackers, where you’ll find numerous places to eat, drink, and people watch. The area started to become well known by backpackers in the 90’s and after the popular movie, The Beach, came out in 2000, tourism began to boom. Whether you’re up to party or just take in the scene, this is the street to do it.

Chiang Mai

Visit an endless number of magnificent wats (temples) such as Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, and if you’re templed-out by this point in your trip, there are plenty other discoveries you can make. Wander the busy markets (especially the Night Bazaar), enjoy some street food, take some time to relax with a Thai massage, or book a multi-day trek into the surrounding mountains and soak in the scenery while getting to know the hill tribes.

Eat Pad Thai

Enjoying an authentic local Pad Thai dish will be like no other from back home. The ingredients are fresh, the flavour is mouth-watering, and best of all, it’s cheap! You’ll be looking at about $2 per bowl.

Phi Phi Islands

Consisting of two islands, Phi Phi Leh and Phi Phi Don, these islands are right out of a dream. Located a quick 90-minute ferry ride from Phuket, these islands offer turquoise water, limestone cliffs, and white sand beaches. Be sure to take a day boat trip to visit the outer islands (Monkey Beach and Maya Bay, where the movie, The Beach, was filmed. It has become quite a popular spot for tourists nowadays, which is a shame it is no longer a secret).

The White Temple

Sadly, I wasn’t able to visit this site however if I have an opportunity to return one day, this will be on my list! Located in Chiang Rai (Northern Thailand), this temple is called Wat Rong Khun but has been nicknamed the White Temple. .
